Collectable annuals, books and postcards


The Beano comic began in July 1938, although its most famous character Dennis the Menace didn't appear until 1951,and he didn't have his famous hooped jumper!
His female equivalent Minnie the Minx began a couple of years later, and the Bash Street Kids a year after.

 The Dandy comic started in December 1937.
Korky the Cat was on the front cover until 1985 when he was ousted by Desperate Dan, both characters having been in the comic from the start.

Rupert first appeared in the Daily Express newspaper in 1920 and is the longest running children's comic character.He was created by Mary Tourtel.
From 1935 Alfred Bestall took over the writing and illustrating until he retired in 1965. Rupert continues to this day.

The Eagle comic began in the 1950's created by the Rev. Marcus Morris to counter the American horror comic influence.Dan Dare, the pilot of the future, was its star - based on a sort of British war hero. Dan Dare continued as a futuristic action hero in 2000AD after being injured and put into suspended animation!The Eagle returned with Dan in the 1970's and various designs and characterisations have followed.The annuals ran from 1952-1975 and 1983 onwards.
